Welcome to NOLS

Welcome!  This is an online publication of the Nonprofit Organizations Law Section of the Oregon State Bar.

The views and opinions presented are those of the authors only and do not necessarily represent the views of the Oregon State Bar, its members, or of NOLS members. Note that nothing on this site is intended as or may be interpreted as legal advice. If you need legal advice or counsel, you are advised to consult an attorney licensed to practice law in your state.

Meanwhile, now that you’re here, we hope you’ll look around. You can read about NOLS, its brief history, its structure, and its leadership starting on the page headed About NOLS.

If you’re a NOLS member, then you know the double-secret password, which you’ll need to gain access to NOLS Online, our edited online journal, offering the immediacy of web-based content with the virtues of a traditional edited publication.

Anyone interested in advising nonprofits might benefit from checking out the Resource Connections page. Don’t forget to browse the events page to find out about upcoming trainings and conferences aimed at helping nonprofits or their legal advisers. (And there’s a form for suggesting events to add to our listing!)

And did you know that you don’t have to be an attorney to join NOLS? The bylaws of the Oregon State Bar permit legal staff and professionals in related fields with an interest in serving nonprofits to join NOLS. Of course, all Oregon attorneys or those from other states who advise Oregon nonprofits are encouraged to join us as well.

Got feedback or suggestions? Go to the Join NOLS page and fill out the contact form. Someone will get back to you reasonably promptly, as those things go (in other words, if it’s urgent, please contact one of the section’s executive committee members directly — click on any name in that list to get the contact info for that person.)
